About
Chicks4Change was inspired by a sponsor to my radio program, who became my partner, and then my closest friend, Brooke Winston – Axtell. At the tender age of 21, Brooke suffered and survived a Stroke. Rather than internalize this terrible event, she became inspired to raise both money and awareness for Stroke.
In 2004 she received a letter from the American Stroke Association’s Train to End Stroke program inviting her to register for their Kona Marathon. Having never been a runner let alone marathoner, being the unstoppable, dynamic, determined Virgo-girl she is, Brooke agreed to raise the required donation of $4,800 and signed on!
Brooke’s commitment and enthusiasm was contagious! I asked how I could help and in that moment Chicks4Change was born! The power of the feminine coupled with team work, passion and drive is unstoppable! In June of 2004 Brooke completed her 1st marathon and became the Top National Fundraiser for TTES! Together, along with support from her employer, not only did we raise the $4800, but a total of $30,000 our first season.
Since then Chicks4Change has raised over $100,000 for local, national and International charities and non-profits and continues our commitment to make a difference by serving our community. Thanks to Brooke’s inspiration, I too have become a Top National fundraiser for both the American Stroke Association and Childhelp and have completed 7 marathons!
We believe one person can make a difference; together we can change the world - and be fabulous!
